A Tribute to Mr. Locke

Ennis Dexter Locke, Jr., loving husband of Sharon (Jackson) Locke and proud father of Jahi D. Locke, passed away on Monday, April 20th, 2009, at Middlesex Hospital. tribute_collage

Born in Portsmouth, VA, he was the son of Otelia Locke of Waterford and the late Ennis Dexter Locke, Sr.

Dexter graduated from New York University and Wesleyan University and had lived in Middletown for ten years where he was a teacher at Woodrow Wilson Middle School. Dexter also enjoyed a long career in film, theatre, music, and the arts. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in New London, The Middletown Men's Club, NAACP, and active in SAG, AFTRA and AEA.

Besides his wife, son and mother, he is survived by three sisters, Eleanor Godfrey of New London, Carole Bishop of Washington, D.C. and Barbara Laurent of Amherst, MA; niece, Karin Jones, niece, Yvette Laurent, and nephew, Sean Laurent; one aunt and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations in Dexter's memory to the Dexter Locke Memorial Scholarship, Middletown High School, 200 LaRosa Lane, Middletown CT 06457.
